There are thousands of people each and every day searching for ways to make money online. They will find many different resources such as survey websites, get rich quick schemes, and many false promises. There are some that may refine their search to online business which is much better than making money online because it focuses on developing an online income from hard work and marketing rather than a few dollars here or there for simple tasks. Now I am not saying that the “get paid to” niche is bad for everyone if you are looking for a couple hundred dollars each month it may be useful to take surveys or write some articles. On the other hand if you are wanting to work towards a full time income then you should consider creating a web presence, marketing the presence, and earning income from the traffic coming to a presence.

One of the best and easiest ways to build an online presence is using a blog platform. There are many to choose from such as blogger.com, wordpress.com, and typepad.com. All of these will give you a free domain name, free space, and free bandwidth. I have seen people begin a free blog and literally make thousands of dollars each month after a couple years working with the blog. The key element of any successful blog is choosing the right niche and this will take some investigating. When trying to decide the niche you would like to create the free blog on be sure it is a topic which has interested you for some time. You will need to keep the blog going and creating content on this topic for at least a couple years before you will see the full payoff.

The second thing when choosing a niche is the amount of traffic and the amount of competition. If you would like to see the amount of traffic go to Google and type in “Google Adwords Keyword Tool”. This will bring up a tool which allows you to enter a term and it will bring up the amount of traffic the term is getting as well as the amount of traffic 99 other related terms are getting. With this list you can easily find which terms are worth optimizing your blog for. Now once you have found a topic with enough search volume to sustain your online income goals the next step will be checking who is ranking in the top ten for the term. Go to Google and type in the term to see which websites will be your direct competition. You can take the URLs from these top ten websites over to Yahoo and type “site:competitorsurl”. This will bring up the number of backlinks your competitor has which will give you an idea on the amount of backlinks necessary to reach the top ten for the term.
