You should focus on what is missing within the niche you are planning to work in and when building make it extensive covering as much information as possible. If you do not want to go through learning a server side code then free scripts will probably be your only option unless you have the money to pay a programmer to build your web presence. You then of course have to pay for anything you want changed even if it is something small.
The last part after your website is completed and ready to take traffic is external marketing. When you are out on the web and posting make sure to never lie. You should start building trust with your traffic before they even hit your website by posting relevant content with your links. If you are trying to rank for a keyword that has a lot of traffic, but not very relevant to your website you should stop and rethink. If you want that traffic you will need to build a sub page or reorganize your website around the keywords with more search volume.
