One of the hardest for any webmaster or blogger is ranking where they want to rank within Google and the other major search engines. This article will be focusing on different strategies when trying to rank high for Google. One important thing to remember is no one, but Matt Cutts and the others over at Google know exactly how to reach the top. They keep their algorithm a secret and for good reason. The only way I and you can know how to reach the top of Google is with trial and error. Luckily we are not completely left in the dark Matt actually speaks out on what is proper website marketing. He gave us a decent understanding of why it is important to create good content. Simply put if you create content that Google’s visitors need or want to look at then they will rank you well. This is true to a point, but not even Google can find your content without you taking certain steps including building links.
First off without amazing content then forget about building links. You need to create something that is worth buying, reading, using, ect.. Without great content all the links in the world will not make you much money. Now if you are sure you have content worth reading then it is time to begin marketing. One thing before we move onto link building is understanding that to rank well in Google you will need some time behind your website. I have found ranking well in Google usually takes around 6 months of really hard work. Once you begin ranking well then it is much easier to rank well for any key term you would like with the correct promotional activities. To begin marketing it is good to have an understanding of what niche you are in. If you created a website about free web traffic then you will want to build links from websites in the “internet marketing” niche.
When you start building links you will more than likely not have any idea where to go. Well if you know what to search Google for it can be a source of literally millions of free one way backlinks. Understanding what types of backlinks you can get will be the first step. The types of backlinks that are worth building include link exchanges, article directories, general directories, niche directories, social networking websites, social bookmarking websites, press release websites, forum, and blogs. These are pretty much the basic link building material used by the majority of webmasters. The key in finding them is knowing how to use Google to pull lists. Let say you want a list of free general directories that you can submit your website to. Well my usual search is “list of free general directories”. This will pull up hundreds of lists which you can submit your website to. You can use this to find lists of article directories and anything else you need to do well.
