After the creation of your website or blog you may be wondering why you are not getting any organic (search engine) traffic. Well there is no way for Google or the other search engines to find your web presence unless you have done some basic link building submitting your URL to social bookmarking, social networking, and maybe a few directories. It is also possible to start looking for link exchange partners within your niche by going to Google and searching for related topics within your niche. Before you begin marketing by building links you will need a presence which you can market. If you have already build a web presence that is great, but if you would like to then head over to squidoo.com, hubpages.com, blogger.com, typepad.com, wordpress.com, or 000webhost.com. Every one of these websites will allow you to create a free web presence and with the correct marketing you will be able to reach the top of Google for whatever keywords you would like.
Personally I am trying to reach the top for the term “how to make money online”, but I don’t recommend trying a term with this much competition until you have a good understanding of what it takes to reach the top of the serps. To reach the top of Google and the other major search engines you will need three separate things. The first is content that the search term you would like to rank well for. It is good to have the term in the meta title, a h1 tag on the page, and at least once within the content. This will help Google understand that your website definitely has to do with that term and should come up in the SERPs when someone types in the term.
The second factor of ranking well within the search engines is getting indexed and letting time pass. Google and the other major search engines really don’t trust new websites and they are subject to major changes. You will need to wait at least a year before the major search engines will trust your website and you will stop bouncing up and down.
The third factor of ranking well besides time and content is the number and authority of backlinks pointing towards your website. There are hundreds of different ways to build links, but the best will of course come from websites that link to your website because they think it will help their traffic. You can start building links from free general directories over at directorycritic.com. You can also gain free one way links from article directories. Now if you would like to connect with an audience find a blog that has a decent sized readership and find out if they would like a guest post. Not only will this help build a backlink to your website, but also let the bloggers audience know about your web presence.
