Guest Posting Secrets Revealed

by admin on October 12, 2011

Guest posting is one of the quickest free ways to establish authority, credibility and drive free targeted traffic to your site.

The general etiquette with guest posts is that the blogger will allow you to insert a short paragraph introducing yourself and insert a link back to your own blog. So this gives you both a backlink, but more importantly, direct traffic that comes from the readers of that blog clicking through to your link because they like your post and your style of writing.

But the traffic is not the only benefit. It helps get your name out there so if you do this alongside your blog commenting efforts, people in the blogosphere of your niche will start to see you all over the place. Also, if you post on blogs that have large readerships (that’s what you’re aiming for) then it makes you look as though you have more authority because your name becomes associated with that blog.

Golden rule – can you guess what it is? Write VALUABLE content! Your best stuff. It is tempting to want to keep the ‘best’ stuff for your own blog because if it gets backlinks and traffic of its own accord then you want your site to get that but this is a trade-off. Never write so much content for guest posts that you compromise your own blog – that would be counter-productive.

Your goal should be to always have your own content mapped out first but then to write additional content for use as guest posts but always make sure that the quality of your post, the content, your writing, your spelling & grammar etc are top notch.

Guest posting can be a great way to make use of ideas that don’t quite fit in with your own blog. For example, if you have a very specialized niche but your knowledge extends wider than your niche, you can seek out other related blogs and write posts for them where the content would be more appropriate on their blog than on your own. This is an excellent strategy to widen your readership because it is a way in to related niches that might otherwise not find your content.

The next factor for consideration is whether you should write a post and then find a blog to submit it to, or write a post with a specific blog in mind.

My suggestion would be to have a blog in mind and to tailor your post to that blog first. However, you need a backup plan in case that blog doesn’t want to publish your post so before you begin writing, gather a list of perhaps 3-4 blogs that you could approach with your post. You don’t want to go to the effort of writing a post and then not have anywhere to publish it.

All in all, the method of guest posting is very powerful and can produce incredible results.
