How can I make my blog better?

These are some of my views on blogging.

Though I am not an experienced blogger, there are some tips for beginners on how you can improve your blog in terms of looks, contents and way of communicating and interacting with your readers.

Building blocks

A blog must be able to provide the readers an easy way of navigating around your web page. You should give some catergories , topics, Post ‘Archives’ and ‘Recent Posts’ section. Others comes next – that includes your favourite links or blogroll, recent comments etc. Sitemap is another important things which is a page that lists logically organised navigation links to all posts on your blog.  This can be created esaily using the sitemap creation plugins or widgets. This are available for all blog platforms.

About you

Please provide a description about yourself, your tastes etc in the ‘About’ or ‘Profile’ section. You should also provide a contact email address for readers to send direct feedbacks to you. This will create some human touch. Remember nobody would like to read and comment on anonymous posts.

Style and looks

Your blog theme (or template) should convey your personality and the content. Keep reader in mind. Don’t  ever use hard to read small fonts for blogs.  Blogs are usually easy-reading material that people read in a relaxed mood. So use Simple language. Select and Put your ads on your blog so that it will not obstruct their reading continuity.

Be regular

Keep your reader updated with blog regularly . It can be once every 3 days or could be a couple of times a week as well. Never stop for weeks as you might lost your readers. For a new blog, it is better to post regularly. Prompt in answering to comments as this improves your personal touch.

Writing style

Be short and crisp. Readers like to read a post within two pages of vertical scrolling limit. Do some keyword research, use attractive post title. Add pictures and links wherever applicable. Internal Link to your own old posts. This will help the readers to navidgate and find relevant info easily.

Syndicate your contents

Most readers prefers to read it from their feed-reader applications. It is better to syndicate (use RSS or ATOM) the entire contents of your blog. This will attract a lot more readers to your blog. List your blogs on those public blog directories and in right categories which will attract a lot of readers.
