One of the most difficult things for new webmasters and bloggers to rid themselves of is the preconceived notion that if they want to make money online all they need to do is create a website and their bank accounts will fill up. If you were to count up all the hours I have worked on my business the hundreds I make each month would probably be worth a couple dollars an hour. Now as you work harder and harder on your business the truth is the less work you need to do for more results. Older websites have more trust with Google and will rank higher for more competitive words with less work. So what should a new webmaster or blogger do if they want to succeed online and begin building an income. The first and most important thing is for them to work hard creating the presence. The creation holds some major search engine optimization value and should not be done in a rush to make money.
When you want to make money online you first need to understand where and how to earn money online. Remember the main ways anyone can make money online are offering a service such as directory submission or article writing, affiliate marketing, PPC publishing, and product creation. Anything outside these will probably not be possible for someone new the online business world. All of the ways mentioned above will take quite a bit of work. Some pay right up front such as PPC Publishing and Writing the other two take time and a ton of work building organic traffic before you see a long term payoff.
You may be wondering how much work it will take before you begin seeing the payoff for your online business. This depends on what you go after first. Personally I feel that there are two different ways to go after success in the search engines. The first way is going after a highly competitive terms that offer tons of traffic. These are extremely difficult to reach the top, but if you put in the months of link building you will see the highest payoff. If you want to rank well for a term such as internet marketing then be prepared to spend around ten months before you are even ranked in the top hundred. On the other hand if you go after a much less competitive term such as free internet marketing you can reach the top ten within the same time frame. For the new webmaster and blogger who does not have much SEO or internet marketing experience it is usually recommended going after long tailed less competitive keywords rather than the competitive terms. This is because not only do you need a ton of work to reach the top of Google for these keywords you also need the knowhow which can only be learned through experience.
