Why does internet marketing work? I’ve read several books and dozens of ebooks online about internet marketing, and the overwhelming sense from the people who write them is: Internet Marketing is easy. REALLY easy. So why is that most people fail online? Why is it that only an elite percent (less than 5 by most accounts) of people that attempt to make money online actually succeed?
Instead of looking at why people FAIL online, think about what makes online businesses successful in the first place. Instead of thinking about making money online as some sort of magic button, try to think of it as nothing more than an extension of everyday commerce. Although this makes the process perhaps less exciting, ultimately it will lead to greater understanding on your part, greater seriousness (and therefore higher credibility), and actual profits.
The biggest reasons you CAN make money online:
1. The resources are gigantic-From sites where people can do research for you, to free web 2.0 sites to build a following, to hiring people to do your cold calling, to having people build great websites for under $500, there is simply a wealth of resources out there for the average joe. The internet is set-up now to make it, if not easy, then certainly plausible. It becomes plausible when the right information combines with a desire to work and a serious intention on making things happen. A single person can build an income of five, six, or seven figures or more online BY THEMSELVES without having to have an office building or hire employees.
2. Cheap set-up plus niche tools plus mass communication-Equals…? MONEY! Just imagine if a businessman or businesswoman could set up fifty businesses in the time that it would take them normally to set up just one, and it would cost a fraction of the money. Now are you beginning to understand? The possibilities in this business become infinite the moment you realize that the means of promoting yourself are ever-increasing, the niches are ever-widening, the wills and desires and interests of people are ever-changing, and the combinations of these things are even larger.
Now, let’s focus on why people DON’T make money online for just a second:
1. Information overload-Since the possibilities are so large, people tend to get overwhelmed and instead of broadening their understanding to accommodate the vastness of the information, they get frustrated and quit. Therefore, it’s necessary to point out that in order to succeed online you must have the patience to stick with it. If you are a person who can stick with just one thing and follow it to its success, great! If you are the type of person, like me, who likes to jump around to different systems and topics all the time, you can do this too. But you have to put up with discomfort either way. You’ll have to wade through the chaos to start seeing how actually completely manageable the whole thing can become. Just be patient with yourself, trust the process, don’t get down on yourself or your abilities, and try to continually learn and push yourself beyond the comfort zone.
2. Financial falling out/compulsive buying-This is no longer an excuse because of how many free resources are out there for you today. But it is a reality for many internet marketers that they feel compelled to continuously buy new products and systems in order to avoid the feeling of loss and emptiness when a system doesn’t work. This is, in my opinion, perfectly natural, and a key part of the process. If the alternative is giving up, then you might as well spend more money on an ebook or whatever, as long as you don’t bury yourself in debt.
I hope this article helped you see some ways in which you might be failing online, and how to change. The fact is, I believe the biggest stumbling block is yourself and if you stick with it as if it were a difficult younger sibling or child, you will start to see how it all fits together and succeed in huge leaps and bounds.
